Navigating the world of disability services can feel complicated—but it doesn’t have to be. At Brown Family Housing, we see every challenge as an opportunity to empower our residents and families. We work closely with community organizations, advocates, and government agencies to create a support system that strengthens independence, safety, and overall well-being.

For many adults connected to the California Regional Center (DDS), the most common areas of support fall into ten key categories. From our hands-on experience, we know that understanding these areas can make a huge difference in how smoothly individuals access services:

  • Eligibility and Assessments: Knowing how to apply and document disability-related needs.
  • IPP/IFSP Planning & Coordination: Turning identified needs into actionable services with clear follow-through.
  • Respite Care: Finding options that allow caregivers to rest, recharge, and care for themselves.
  • Behavior Supports & Crisis Planning: Ensuring safety and stability through thoughtful, proactive intervention plans.
  • Day Programs & Community Access: Helping adults engage socially, build life skills, and feel connected.
  • Employment & Vocational Support: Guiding residents toward meaningful and fulfilling work opportunities.
  • Housing Solutions: Exploring supported or independent living options that feel like home.
  • Transportation & Mobility: Offering training and services to move around safely and independently.
  • Health Services & Equipment: Coordinating therapies, home health care, and essential medical supports.
  • Rights, Appeals & Dispute Resolution: Assisting families when services are denied or advocacy is needed.

What we’ve learned is that service coordination is the cornerstone of a successful support system. Everything else—from housing to employment to health services—depends on this central hub. And when challenges arise, knowing your rights and having access to clear guidance helps families feel supported rather than overwhelmed.

At Brown Family Housing, our mission is to make navigating these services as straightforward and empowering as possible. We focus on person-centered support—tailoring resources to each individual’s needs while building skills, independence, and meaningful community connections.

We know that when adults and their families feel confident, informed, and supported, they can focus on what truly matters: living full, meaningful lives. Every day, our team strives to turn potential obstacles into pathways for growth, opportunity, and inclusion.
