Our work is rooted in collaboration—with families, advocates, community organizations, and government partners—to ensure that the adults we serve and their families can thrive.
For many individuals navigating the California Regional Center system (IDD/DDS), the journey can feel overwhelming. From eligibility and intake to planning and accessing services, the process often involves multiple steps and moving parts. That’s where we come in. We guide our residents and families through the system, providing clarity and support at every stage.
Through our experience, we’ve seen that some topics consistently create the most questions and challenges for our clients. These include:
- Eligibility and Assessments: Understanding how to document support needs and qualify for services.
- IPP/IFSP Planning & Service Coordination: Translating needs into authorized services and ensuring follow-through.
- Respite Care: Finding caregiver relief options, both in-home and out-of-home.
- Behavior Supports & Crisis Response: Creating plans to manage challenging behaviors and emergencies.
- Day Programs & Community Integration: Connecting adults with skill-building activities and social opportunities.
- Employment & Vocational Supports: Offering job coaching and supported employment pathways.
- Housing & Residential Options: Supporting independent or assisted living and navigating housing programs.
- Transportation & Mobility: Teaching public transit, arranging paratransit, or specialized transportation.
- Health, Therapies, & Equipment: Coordinating nursing, therapy services, and medical equipment.
- Rights & Appeals: Guiding families through disputes, complaints, or service denials.
We often describe service coordination as the “hub” that ties everything together. The other areas—respite, day programs, housing, employment, health—are like the spokes, expanding and adapting based on life stage. And when changes or disputes arise, understanding rights and appeals becomes crucial.
Our goal at Brown Family Housing is simple: to help adults and their families navigate these challenges confidently, ensuring they receive the services they need while promoting independence, growth, and inclusion. Every conversation, every service plan, and every partnership is rooted in the belief that care and community go hand in hand.
